The Lake Garden
Taiping’s Lake Gardens, once the abandoned mining site to the people now the emerald gardens of Taiping. Spanning an area of 62 hectares, this site was transformed into the beautiful natural landscapes by Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker in 1880. During my days back to Taiping, I managed to snap a few photos of this oldest urban parkland of Malaysia. Here presenting to you – my ‘balik kampung’ pictures.
Green, green, green is everywhere in these alluring landscapes; something magical about how the makeover was carried out about 130-years ago.
I also took a few photos of Taiping’s Museum, prison, WWII cemetery and the streets nearby; it’s a fun ride around the Lake Gardens.
Taiping’s Museum
The Perak Museum in Taiping is the first and oldest museum in Malaysia, was built in 1886.

Built in 1879, the Taiping prison is the first prison in Malaysia.
